PSA to the Collecting Community- NEVER EVER EVER Store your Collection (or anything valuable) in a rented storage space, and if you do, please make sure that it is possible to get independent insurance coverage for all items set up beforehand. I’m hoping that others can be cautioned and learn from my recent devastating burglary, so no one else will have to find out that the insurance on your unit refuses to cover anything considered “collectible’ (along with not covering MOST items that anyone would have in storage) only AFTER you’ve filed your claim for the burgled items. I’ve been dealing with the fallout of the burglary for the past 3 months and for a while, had decided to stop collecting, since I lost 90% of my 1/6th scale and 1/12th scale collections, along with most all other valuable possessions that I had to my name in the storage room, since I was in-between permanent housing at the time, and literally everything to my name was in that unit. As time has progressed, and especially due to the incredibly kind, awesome and generous nature of @Sideshow Collectibles, I decided that even if I couldn’t replace everything in my past collection, that I would do my best to slowly rebuild and not give up on something that has brought me so much joy and even more-so, I didn’t want to leave behind an awesome community of creative, passionate and fun collectors out there! (I’m talking about Y’ALL!). The turning point for not giving up on collecting was Sideshow’s free Dark Trooper offer from November 1-5. I’m sure other people out there were stoked on this deal, but it was a crucial moment for bringing me back into the game, because that meant I had an opportunity to repurchase some of my favorite figures from Sideshow, but actually feel good about the transaction, because I’m getting A FREE DARK TROOPER as well. If you’re like me, that means you can play the mental gymnastics game of— "I’m not paying for i.e. The Dude Exclusive figure by Sideshow for a second time, I’m paying for a collection of Dark Troopers (of which I only previously owned only 1 of) and I’m getting the other figures that I’ve previously purchased for FREE." I just wanted to take a few moments to tell Sideshow and the community how much I appreciate what y’all do for myself and for everyone else in the community. Also, I’ve been meaning to publicly state that I reached out to Sideshow when this happened and said, is there any chance I might either be able to get a replacement figure or few, or to at minimum could they make it so I could get on waitlists to repurchase a few exclusive figures that had limits of 1, and I noted that I totally understood if there wasn’t really anything that could be done in this situation (most companies out there would do absolutely nothing, maybe not even reply, so I wasn't really expecting anything, just trying to be hopeful and open-minded about the situation). However, Sideshow DID something truly above and beyond and sent myself a very kind and empathic response, as well as a life size Sideshow Collectibles The Child, totally for FREE. THAT ACT of kindness was the first step back into the collecting game, then the Dark Troopers deal confirmed it and pulled me back for good. I wish I could post a photo of The Child right now, but he is currently awaiting me at my parents house in NC, since I had Sideshow ship it to that location. I’m moving from Oregon and beyond that event back to my home state of North Carolina tomorrow, and wanted to say I’m looking forward to some serious unboxings when I get there. THANK YOU Sideshow! Thanks collector community! Happy Geeksgiving to one and all! Love y'all, mean it!
